British scientists were granted permission on Monday to start an extremely controversial research program on modifying the genes of human embryos. Opponents of the program say that it might lead in the future to "design designer babies".

Proponents of this research indicate that researchers are not 'create children "because genetically modified embryos will be destroyed after 7 days. While the aim of the research is to better understand the process of human development at the earliest stages, which may facilitate m. Al. effective treatment of infertility (including vehicles in vitro), and the prevention of miscarriages.

The consent to this research, the first of its kind, gave the British Office. Human Fertilisation and Embryology. The study will take a team led by Kathy Niakan having great achievements in the field of embryology and cell research, in the newly opened Francis Crick Institute.

In other countries, eg. in the US and China, this kind of testing is necessary permit. In the US, the law prohibits the use, for research on embryos modification of federal funds, but there is no ban such research.

As explained by Director of the Institute Paul Nurse, the modification of genes involves removing, repairing or replacing DNA fragments in the cells. This may in future allow more effective treatment of HIV disease in kind or hereditary diseases such as muscular dystrophy.

In contrast, the Catholic Church and other religious organizations argue that the manipulation of genes of embryos is "fiddling with God," which can lead to unpredictable consequences.

For those fears joined by some researchers who suggest that this kind of manipulation can cause consequences that become apparent only after the baby is born, or even in the next tribes. They may also widen the gap between the rich who can afford to have a "superdzieci" and the poor.
