Extendable living room (Bigelow Expandable Activity Module – BEAM), sent into space eight days ago, will be attached to the module Tranquility. Installation will take care of the astronauts who are currently staying at the International Space Station (ISS). The works are to last four hours.
BEAM look simple. In its complex form it is just over 4 meters. sq. After spreading, scheduled for the last days of May, the length of the module will be 4 meters, and the diameter – 3 meters. Only then will the astronauts will be able to begin to test, which will take up to two years. During this time they will go in there once a month for a few hours, to read the data from the sensors and to evaluate the conditions. If it turns out that BEAM protects against radiation, temperature variations and space debris, NASA will use the modules to build a space station on the moon or Mars.
