LTE in the new laboratory and Nokia AGH in Krakow – Media2.pl

Representatives of Nokia’s Networks and the Academy of Mining and Metallurgy. Staszic in Krakow inaugurated a new laboratory teaching for students, which will be launched fully functional mobile network of the latest generation LTE.

It is the first such study launched at Polish universities. Modern laboratory was made possible through an agreement concluded between AGH and the Krakow branch of Nokia Networks. It consists of five base stations LTE – so. “Small cells”. Three of them are small stations for internal use – similar in size to Wi-Fi router. The other two are larger devices equipped with transmitters with power up to 5 watts. In addition, the laboratory includes testing LTE smartphones and computers running the Linux operating system and the operator’s network simulator.
Despite the low power – these devices are widely used. They are used for mounting external and internal, eg. During concerts or sporting events, New Year’s Eve. Their primary task is to increase coverage and network capacity, allowing mobile phone users will be able to connect and use mobile Internet.

LTE during various mass events, sports events, or where there are problems with a stable connection – indoors and outdoors – says Krzysztof Persona, director of the Center for Research and Development Nokia in Krakow.

Providing a unique hardware will not be Nokia’s only contribution to the development of competence of students at AGH.
