Modern technologies have helped archaeologists from the University of Sydney in the discovery of a lost medieval city Mahendraparvata.

Mahendraparvata, located on the top of Phnom Kulen, probably existed for 350 years before the temples of Angkor Wat.

By using laser scanning technology “LIDAR” Researchers have discovered a temple, the remains of canals, roads and drainage ditches. Two of the face-preserved temples in the jungle in excellent condition.

The search for the lost city

lasted for several years. The breakthrough was a new technology. Ruins found the exact spot indicated by the LIDAR. While scientists have waded through the Cambodian forest, over their heads flew a small helicopter with built-in laser scanner and studied the ground from a height. The new system sends laser pulses to the ground and on the basis of their reflections create an accurate map of the study area.
