Newest Ericsson Mobility Report indicates that the next five years will be marked by a huge expansion of LTE, which will gradually displace outdated 3G technology. The report forecast that by 2020 the number of LTE subscriptions will grow by more than 3 billion pieces.
The development of LTE is certainly not uniform. The report shows that as soon as he takes in the region of Southeast Asia, where over the next five years is to arrive 1.8 billion SIM cards working in the technology. It is over 60% of the global number of new LTE subscriptions, the number of which in 2020 Ericsson estimated at 3.1 billion by 2020. At the same time forecasts indicate that the next half decade will bring significant decline (-2.9 billion) number of SIM cards that are only based on the GSM / EDGE.The transition to LTE slowest runs in Central Europe, where there is still a significant proportion of users are using outdated technology with 3G. Note, however, that both in Central Europe and the Middle East, LTE technology is still in its early stages of development, unlike in North America and Western Europe – where LTE is successfully working for several years.
LTE will be everywhere?
– Access to LTE becomes more commonplace, and operators already offer it outside the most densely populated areas. LTE popularity stems from its many advantages, mainly enables higher data transfer rate, allowing you to watch your videos in full HD quality. What is important for operators, network modernization and transition to LTE technology does not require building infrastructure from scratch – Kanzi Oliver said Head of Ericsson in Poland.
rapid development of LTE and 3G drop in popularity is also accompanied by growing position of HSPA, which by 2020 will become the most popular data transmission technology in developing regions, including in Africa, Central and South America, earning at that time approx. 2.3 billion new SIM cards operating in this technology.
