We will go to Mars. Hyperion - new rover from Bialystok ... - Gazeta Wyborcza

in late May and early June, he and his designers will take part in international competitions Mars rovers University Rover Challenge in the desert of Utah in the United States. Once again, Bialystok university will have their representatives there. The biggest success was occupied two years ago, I place the machine Magma 2 also constructed by the students of the Technical University of Bialystok.

– You can say that we have your recipe for success. This engaging and intelligent students who have good health researchers and, importantly, are supported financially – says Andrzej Seweryn, dean of the faculty of mechanical PB, where unusual inventions arise. – It is worth noting that our students with a project to build the rover competed in the “Future Generation” of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and received 366 thousand. z? for the implementation of their project.

Hyperion – new rover Bialystok University of Technology

this time in the desert getting Mars simulation will take part sze?cioko?owy Hyperion. It weighs less than 40 kg (which is heavier than the previous rover), and has a top speed of 20 km / h (which is faster than Magma 2). It is made of aluminum, has a camera, GPS, a gripping arm. A motor mounted in the prototype do not differ from those working in the real Mars rover Curiosity.

On Tuesday at the Technical University hosted a presentation of the machine and its constructors. Before the camera lens and cameras rover “gwiazdorzy?”: gently broke the flower, blew dandelion, skillful arm raised also encountered stone. But frolic in comparison with what Hyperion will have to perform during the event.

– will be held viewing field test its strength. Jeep has also drill with which the samples while searching for signs of life. It also has the baskets, which will carry a first aid kit in time to assist astronauts – says Micha? Grze?, designer rover.

In addition to the part of the rover team includes: Robert Baldyga – Programmer (maintenance of the software), James Maliszewski – Electronics (servicing electronic parts), Jacek Wojdy?a – electronics (servicing electronic parts), Ariel Lech – engineer (maintenance of mechanical parts). The work involved is also Luke Matysiewicz – engineer, prepared a presentation for the competition. A project coordinator is Peter Ciura – PhD student at the Faculty of Mechanical PB, co Magmy2.

As as they say, the idea of ??building a prototype Mars rover appeared in late 2012, and worked the hardest in recent months. Is everything Af the last button – verify international competitions. To participate in the University Rover Challenge signed up 14 teams from the United States, Canada, Polish and India. In addition to the Hyperion team will represent Poland team Scorpio III University of Technology and SKNL Rover Team of Rzeszów University of Technology. All Polish rovers will be able to see on Wednesday (15.05) at the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw.
