Astronaut Scott Kelly after a 340-day stay on the International Space Station returned to Earth … higher about 5 cm, as reported site SlashGear.
After returning from the ISS Kelly goes very detailed study. On the basis of NASA finds out, the impact on the human body has such a long stay in space. That’s not all. Astronaut has a twin brother, which further increases the importance of research. The two are part of a research project called “Twins Study”.
It is already known that Kelly returned from the ISS higher by as much as 5.1 cm, which is of course related to the low gravity. The change, however, is only temporary and astronaut returns to its original growth – before the flight into space.
All of this kind of research is very important in the context of future long distance space travel, eg. On Mars, where a flight is only one way it may take up to 18 months.
