Head of Mission of the French space agency CNES announced that the European space probe Philae works well, but probably has placed on the steep slope of the comet
“Philae is working without a problem. Its battery provides energy” – said Philippe Gaudon, which tracks the work probe Center of scientific operations and navigation in Toulouse in southern France. He stressed that images captured by the robot suggest that it is on a very sloping wall.
The probe landed on a comet 67 / P Churyumov – Gerasimenko yesterday and continuously collects data and sends it to the research center in Toulouse . Shortly after landing submitted information that the lander is not anchored to the surface, it does not ignite loads harpoons.
The comet 67 / P Churyumov – Gerasimenko is 510 million km from Earth. A few hours before landing probe Philae seceded from Rosetta in order to beat yourself about 20 kilometers that separate it from the surface of a comet.
The landing probe Philae is the culmination of the Rosetta mission, which was sent into space ten years ago. The aim of the mission is to determine how the planet formed belonging to the solar system. The scientists also want to examine whether in the past by comets on Earth able to find water and other compounds necessary for the origin of life.
The probe Philae has on-board device to measure the physical properties of the comet, where construction was attended, among others, Polish specialists. Our country is one of the 20 countries belonging to the European Space Agency, which sent Rosette in extraterrestrial space.
Philae probe landing on a comet 67 / P Churyumov – Gerasimenko is the first such achievement in the history of space exploration.
