On Friday morning I had the opportunity to be behind our southern border and visit Prague. I took part in a meeting called Technology Leadership Market 2014 , which was organized by the Czech functioning in Poland branch of T-Mobile. The highlight of the program was to talk about how the whole group Deutsche Telekom expands LTE network, but it’s not the end of curiosities.
At the beginning of Czech events operator praised in the form of a multimedia presentation success on the domestic market. Then I started right part of the conference. Branded her with the names of Milan Vasina (CEO of T-Mobile Czech Republic), Vladimir Klein (CTO ibid), and Marc Sommer – senior vice president of business development at Deutsche Telekom, which is the parent company of T-Mobile.
After a brief introduction came the five panel discussions.
Each of the panels was going to be interesting, but the operator decided to divide the audience, and each of the guests could visit three of the five meetings. Willy-nilly, the same title, and a few short sentences incentives to a particular panel had to choose which of the proposed meeting, I would like to go.
I chose the most interesting from the perspective of Polish member panel named The latest Developments in LTE (ie, the last breakthroughs in the development of LTE), Applications and partnering (partnership with developers) and The Future of Customer Care (customer service is at the end of becomes more important).
The latest Developments in LTE
The presentation began Jan Lahodny (Frequency Strategy and Planning Tools Specialist), and accompanied by Jaroslaw Holis (RN Engeneering Senior Expert). During the presentation at the beginning told about the new LTE-Advanced, which is to be introduced in the future on a larger scale, not only in Czech Republic but also in other regions of Europe.
The company’s representatives spoke about the as modernized network to provide higher data transfer rate by introducing a combined band and testing MIMO 4 × 4. For the end user, these information are not important; important is what results from them, that is, increase the speed of LTE network transfers up to an order of magnitude.
In the future LTE-Advanced has become standard everywhere, but of course at the outset is available only in a few regions of the country .
One of the components of LTE-A is an extension of the band. Until now, those used by the Czech operator did not work together and provide transfers of 75 Mbps (10 MHz in the 800 MHz band) or 150 Mbps (20 MHz in the 1800 MHz band and the 2600 MHz). In the future, all three are to be connected; Today, you can use both 800 MHz and 1800 MHz.
T-Mobile boasts that it is the first operator in the Czech market to introduce LTE Advanced in the country the 30th June 2014. The company now provides 225 Mbps transfer row data when downloading and 50 Mbps when sending them. This is several times more than the basic transfer of LTE in the future transfers to storage devices to achieve the (theoretical) speed of 1 Gbps even.
Hoping to increase the transfer speed is too MIMO technology.
MIMO technology (Multiple Input Multiple Output) is available in two versions: MIMO 2 × 2 and later MIMO 4 × 4. With MIMO device is opened between them and the base station is not one, but two (2 × 2) or four (4 × 4) communication channels with the same bandwidth.
MIMO 2 × 2 gives the growth rate of 75 Mbps to 150 MBps – so it works now on a larger scale. In the future it will be a greater role played the MIMO 4 × 4, which will increase from 150 Mbps to 300 Mbps. This combined with the extension of the band is to bring the growth of the order of magnitude of the base 75 Mbps.
The purpose of T-Mobile is to increase the theoretical speed data transfer to and from the mobile device to the base station in every possible way.
Advantages of MIMO 4 × 4 is, moreover, not only increase the speed of LTE, but also the greater reliability of this type of connection. This is due to the higher resistance to fading Rayleigh fading (ang. Rayleigh fading). Besides reaching interference signals are “repaired” by the algorithms exploring data from other antennas.
To take advantage of the LTE-Advanced uses the few bands today are required to have a device with LTE in category 6. In the case of the Czech T-Mobile are the two smartphones Samsung – Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 4 – and the mobile router Huawei E5786 Mobile WiFi. MIMO 4 × 4 is still quite challenging songs of the future new terminals with a different configuration of antennas.
How do the new developments we see in practice.
presented us live demo downloads by acting today LTE-A. Huawei W5786 was hooked to a laptop in the building where my phone is in roaming coverage showed 2 bars O2-CZ. Let us add, however, that this building T-Mobile CZ, so your coverage will have provided. However download speeds sustained for nearly a minute in real terms at an average of 195 Mbps is impressive.
The second demo presented at the workshop that we call each other by VoLTE demonstration using Samsung phones. Although the connection worked, but the quality was not inspiring. We made a few test calls. In this technology, however, is the potential – in the end sometime in the indefinite future, GSM will probably be replaced in its entirety by LTE. Today both technologies coexist with each other.
What about LTE-Advanced in Poland?
After the presentation of solutions for the development of LTE by T-Mobile in the Czech Republic could not help but ask about the availability of LTE -A in our country. I have a little too good news, because there is unfortunately a matter of weeks, or perhaps months. In Poland, only launched the “usual” LTE.
T-Mobile Poland before in Poland to launch LTE-A must have more frequencies to distribute traffic. Representatives of Deutsche Telekom emphasize, however its advantage due to the fact that they are a group operating in several markets. Thanks to T-Mobile Poland will benefit from the know-how gained in other markets.
Thanks to the theory of T-Mobile in Poland is ready for LTE Advanced. With the experience among Czech network knows where the traps and implementation in the future will be able to proceed smoothly. Now there remains for us but nothing but wait for it until you come to the technical possibilities of the implementation of the service, which is necessary bandwidth.
The need is still obviously a critical mass of the respective terminals. It all comes still time.
The other two presentations I’ve been on the applications and partners, and improvements in customer service, I will describe in a separate post.
