In today’s Czermno archaeologists believe may have been the main center of Red Ruthenia, which fought the fight of the Polish Piast dynasty of rulers of the Russian Kiev.

– We palpable evidence of the times when she began the history of Polish and Russia. These items, when was the last time someone was watching, hiding them in the ground, then perhaps lived Boleslaw the Brave or Vladimir the Great. During the expansion of the Piast state, on the other hand Kievan Rus, the area begin to be important. Castles arise, there is elite because these decorations did not wear ordinary people – said prof. Martin Voloshin from the University of Rzeszow, who directs research in Czermno.

Voloshin said that part of the decorations comes found East of the culture, others with zachodniosłowiańskiej. – For the first time, we see that the elite that here we are at the end of the tenth century, they have contacts so with the world of Western Slavs, those Christian lands by Rome and the world of the eastern Slavs, those Christian lands by Constantinople. Intriguing question arises: whether the more we have relationships with Russia if ties with Polish? There is no simple answer – said Voloshin.

Prof. Andrew Kokowski of UMTS stressed that the found objects with very high artistic value. – This jewelry had to be made by the masters who trained in the finest workshops of the then time. Here we point usually Byzantium, because it was then the center, outside Spain, which build its canons of beauty – he said.

– Those who have developed the jewelry had to be masters of the most world-class. Most likely, the products were brought, but do not be surprised if they were made on the spot, because there was already so much potential – added Kokowski.

The finds were discovered in this and last year. The tomb, located on the site ramparts discovered several silver ornaments of the head, including earrings from the twelfth and thirteenth century, which probably were placed in a leather bag. Archaeologists believe that this tomb is associated with the end of the existence of a fortified settlement. Only dug his part, the work there will be continued. We found in the skeleton of a man, but the decorations were women.

Two other treasures bear witness to the beginning of the castle in Czermno . Dozens of decorations, including a large lunula, or crescent-shaped pendant and a large paciory, hollow, from the second half of X. These elements were found destroyed or semi-finished jewelry. They were hidden in the ground.

96 ornaments were found in the woods where someone buried them in an earthen pot. There were silver lunule, paciory, earrings, and beads of carnelian and glass. These products come from the ninth and tenth centuries, concealed them about 970 r.

All the treasures found within a kilometer of Czermna, during excavations related to the implementation of the international project “Red Cities – golden apple of Polish archeology. The project involves scientists from Polish, German, Ukrainian , Belarus, Slovenia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Found items will be subjected to laboratory tests and conservation work. From May next year will be able to see them in a museum in Tomaszów Lubelski.
