WTF object fell. No harm done – Polish Radio

This is the latest theory of scientists from NASA. Red Planet had a wet and hot gas shell, but solar flares leaving a dry and cooled it.

This was to take place in the early history of Mars. When the planet was young, the atmosphere was conducive to the development of life. Today it is cool and dry. – Mars probably had a thick atmosphere, hot enough that there could be liquid water – says John Grunsfeld from NASA. – Understanding what happened to the Martian atmosphere will help us gain knowledge about the evolution of the atmosphere of planets.

The weekly “Science” publishes just four studies on the results of studies of the Martian atmosphere.

The researchers base their theory on the data sent by NASA’s Maven (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution). They argue that the atmosphere of the Red Planet has been “torn off” from it by powerful solar flares.

The research instruments Maven probe detected the ions escaping from the atmosphere of Mars faster during solar flares and coronal mass ejections. The sun then ionizes the gases on Mars and throws ions in space. Most likely, so too it has happened in the past. This process made and that Mars has ceased to be a friendly, warm place.

Other study, which was published in “Science”, confirms that a magnetic field associated with the activity of the Sun affect the atmosphere of Mars.

The researchers now want to investigate exactly how the solar wind affects the atmosphere of the Red Planet and what exactly makes this atmosphere – although less dense – it’s still there.

Poll Maven also examines the content of dust in the upper Martian atmosphere. Unknown is still a process that would allow particles of dust wzbicie at such a great height.

Maven probe was launched in November 2013. We are currently examining the atmosphere, the climate and weather on Mars. Research carried out by the ship to help answer questions about the past of the planet, and especially the way in which in the past has lost some of the atmosphere. The main mission of scientific probes began on 26 November 2014 and is scheduled for one Earth year, after which time MAVEN will remain in orbit and will continue gathering data.
