Windows RT without expensive upgrade. Here’s how to update the other … – PCLab.pl

This time WinHEC conference was full of lots of interesting information for Windows. First of all, it was confirmed that Windows 10 will appear in the summer, and in addition, this system will be available for free, also for pirates. When it comes to Microsoft’s consumer products are also mentioned perhaps a little forgotten Windows RT.

During the conference presented a detailed inventory of the various systems upgrade methods Windows and Windows Phone. The most important information related to Windows RT, which, as it turns out, there will be no way to upgrade to Windows 10. It is very important that in January this year, the same Microsoft assured about plans to prepare her, but not to the “full Windows 10″ . So it appears that the company abandoned this plan, and along with it the operating system Windows RT.

Such an outcome is hardly ultimately surprising (excluding the January announcement). For many Windows RT platform for a long time had no future. Microsoft did not analyze the reasons for changes in a change of attitude, which is the final farewell to this system.

Windows RT emerged as a new version of Windows 8, designed for devices (tablets) of processors based on ARM architecture, derived from a few companies like Nvidia and Qualcomm. Since the beginning of this platform was fairly widely regarded as unsuccessful “Cram-hole” between Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 Windows RT can support a very limited number of Win32 applications (for the desktop), but among them was Microsoft Office. Its user had to work primarily in the tile world Start Screen and Metro interface applications. These, however, at the beginning it was like for a cure, and in the absence of application for desktop users increasingly have to wonder what in general on the tablet with Windows RT to do.

Another blow for the RT platform was the appearance of new Intel processors based on the x86 architecture, which began to achieve energy efficiency unprecedented levels, more and more threatening to systems based on the ARM architecture.

From WinHEC we already know that the update to Windows 10, inside the system, through service Windows Update, it will be possible at the level of Windows 7 with Service Pack 1, a fully updated Windows 8.1 (S14) and Windows Phone 8.1. Update using a disc or USB, which previously would have to rip ISO image contents can be done from Windows 7 (no service pack), Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, and (optionally) from the Windows 7 SP1 and fully updated Windows 8.1 (S14).
