AMD Opteron and FX return in 16 nm with 20 cores? – FrazPC.pl

Intel’s position in the market performance processors is still unchallenged, but recent unofficial reports suggest that AMD is already working on new systems of family Opteron and FX which have to fight for the title of most efficient. This is the conclusion of the publication of the Italian service BitsandChips.it, but at the outset it is worth noting that this information should be treated with a certain distance.

Leak indicates that FX and Opteron processors x86 return to the market in 2016 or 2017 years, so we will not have to wait a little longer. These systems offer are up to 20 cores and manufactured to be 16 nm or 14 nm process technology, and AMD can outsource their production to Samsung, GlobalFoundries or TSMC. Architecture itself has to be easy to modify and we can expect here a new, non-Bulldozer microarchitecture. During this time, AMD also change their approach to multithreading, CMT system for SMT, and what’s more it is expected that processors will use sockets LGA.

It is worth noting that in the case of core source clearly states that it is not about computing cores, so it should be really loud return. Although the information may seem too optimistic to be true, but it is worth noting that they fit into the plans of TSMC , which implies 20 nm for the next year, and in the next few years is going to go just to properly 16 nm and 14 nm.
