Fields Medal, one of the highest honors in mathematics, the first awarded to a woman.

American of Iranian origin, Maryam Mirzakhani, born in 1977 in Tehran, a professor at Stanford University in California, has been honored with this prestigious award along with three other mathematicians, they are: Frenchman of Brazilian origin Artur Avila from the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, an American of Indian descent Manjula Bhargava, a professor at Princeton University, Austrian Martin Hairer from the British University of Warwick. Each of the winners receives 15 thousand. Canadian dollars, the equivalent of about 11 thousand. euro.

Prof. Maryam Mirzakhani specializes in unusual forms of geometry. She found, among other things a new way of calculating the volume of objects based on hyperbolic surfaces, for example saddle riding. We have already received the prix prix Blumental and Satter awarded by the American Mathematical Society.

Fields Medal was founded in 1932 by a Canadian mathematician John Charles Fields. It is awarded by the International Mathematical unions every four years, at most four scholars who have not yet completed 40 years of age.
