European Space Agency (ESA) announced the results of the competition for Internet users conducted in connection with the mission to comet probe Rosetta. Among the prizes is a Polish name.

In connection with the final approach to the comet probe Rosetta 67P / Churyumov-Gerasimenko space agency ESA decided to hold a contest – anyone willing to share it funny photographs or pictures of their travel. The condition was to link somehow the topic of photos or traveling with a mission Rosetta.

ESA suggested the inclusion of the model in the pictures Rosetta lander Philae or. To make the task easier, the website was available a paper pattern model to print out and submit (you can still download it from the address http://esamultimedia.esa.int/docs/rosetta/RosettaModel.pdf) The presence of the model was not a prerequisite for competition photos.

The deadline for applications expired on August 6, since that day reached the Rosetta comet. At the contest came hundreds of applications, and Internet voting cast 23,000 votes.

Participation took people from all ESA member countries, including Polish, as well as from various other countries around the world, for example. Australia, Turkey , USA, Mexico, Brazil, Japan and Saudi Arabia. It came even photo taken at Concordia polar station in Antarctica.

After collecting all the submissions have been subjected to Internet voting, and thus emerged the best 20 images. Then the jury ESA, which consisted of scientists and technicians of the Rosetta mission, chose two winning shots: one at 20 with online voting and second among all submissions. The winners received an invitation to visit one of the centers of the ESA: European Space Operations Centre in Darmstadt, Germany during the ceremony landing on the comet’s nucleus, which is to take place in November this year

The winning photo caught the attention of the jury, as captured on these key aspects Rosetta mission. The first of the winning photos, titled ,, Rosetta mission in a bottle “(,, Mission Rosetta in a bottle”) Contributed by Elisabetta Bonora. Paper model of the probe was placed in a glass bottle and photographed under water. After shooting a bottle was thrown into the sea, perhaps one day someone will find it. According to the jury photos gave technical challenges that faced the Rosetta mission.

The second award was the work of a photo he sent Emanuele Andreola. Photography was founded on high for 4 km above sea level Gran Paradiso summit in the Alps Graickich. The jury had found many similarities between getting such a high peak of a mountain: a lot of preparation and a long journey to get to your destination and the need to be always ready to meet the unknown threats.

It is true that in its communication ESA did not provide nationalities of winners , but the list of cinematographers honored in the contest’s Polish name: Christopher Bernatowicz.

The winning photos can be viewed on the ESA website at http://www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Space_Science/Rosetta/ Rosetta_arrival_competition_winners. The Agency also prepared a video demonstration of the most interesting works: http://www.esa.int/spaceinvideos/Videos/2014/08/Thank_you_Rosetta_are_we_there_yet_participants. (PAP)
