Nobel Prize for Physics Isamu Akasaki received, Hiroshi Amano and Shuji Nakamura’s invention of efficient blue light-emitting diodes. Their invention made possible the production of clear and efficient sources of white light.
“This year’s winners were honored for inventing an energy efficient and environmentally friendly source of light” – wrote the Nobel Committee in support of the grant awards. Although LEDs designed by Akasakiego, Amano and Nakamura emit blue light, it easily can be changed in white. LEDs are much more efficient than the previously invented the light source – said committee.
The researchers will share equally the amount of SEK 8 million (approx. 3.6 million zł.)
