1,284 new planets Kepler! – Interia

NASA published another set of information about discoveries of the space telescope Kepler. It is a confirmation of the existence in 1284 of extrasolar planets.

If somewhere to look for extraterrestrial life, it is there . Astronomers using the instruments of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) have discovered a suitable three planets orbiting a star about 40 light-years from Earth. The star is a cool dwarf, luminous red glow … read more

Space Telescope Kepler is responsible for a revolution in our perception of the universe. Thanks to him we know that he is simply “filled” extrasolar planets, both large gas giants, and small rocky object the size of Earth.

Every few months, NASA organizes conferences, during which announces the discovery of the Space Telescope . The latest reports, published May 10, 2016 the year 1284 confirm the existence of extrasolar planets. It is the largest single “rash” of previously unknown celestial bodies.

Among them are objects of similar in size to Mars (0.5 – 0.7 diameter of the Earth) similar size to Earth (0.7 – 1.2 Earth’s diameter), class of “super-Earth” (1.2 – 1.9 diameter of the Earth, the lack of this type of facility in our solar system), smaller than Neptune (1.9 – 3,1 diameter of the Earth, they are probably gaseous objects), similar to Neptune (3,1 – 5,1 diameter of the Earth), smaller than Jupiter (5.1 – 8.3 Earth’s diameter), similar in size to Jupiter (8 3 – 13.7 diameter of the Earth) and larger than Jupiter (above 13.7 diameter of the Earth).

a total of objects similar to the Earth we know already about two hundred, which is very large. Most detected by the Kepler telescope extrasolar planets belong to class of “super-Earth”, or is smaller than Neptune.

Nine new discoveries – Kepler-1638b, Kepler-1606b, 1544b-Kepler, Kepler-1455b, Kepler- 560B, Kepler-1410b, Kepler-705B, Kepler and Kepler-1229b-1593b is a class of objects Earth or a “super-Earth” orbiting near or within the ecosphere of their stars. This means that liquid water may exist on the planets for a longer period of time. Of course, detailed knowledge of the conditions in these facilities will require a series of additional observations and measurements.

Thanks to the success of NASA, 2016 is already a record in terms of discoveries of extrasolar planets. In total this year were discovered more than 1,300, and the total number of all known exoplanets already exceeded three thousand.
