Solar flares necessary for life on Earth – Polish Radio

The publication was published in the latest edition of the journal “Nature”.

The researchers conducted observations interferometry technique by which light is collected by a number of separate telescopes are combined together to achieve a greater resolving power of the image. Is then obtained such a resolution, though he had a telescope with a diameter equal to the distance between the extremes instruments. In the case described observation was 330 meters.

explored star is Zeta Andromedae. Researchers obtained images of the surface during the 18-day cycle rotation of the star. It turned out that it has the equivalent of sunspots (the darker areas that are cooler than the rest of the surface of the sun).

These stains are not only in the vicinity of the equator star (as in the case of the Sun), but in the region poles. – Zeta Andromeda spotted in both hemispheres to a very different places. This can not be extrapolated to explain theories about the Sun’s magnetic field – says Rachael Roettenbacher of the University of Michigan.

Zeta Andromedae has a smaller star “partner” and rotates much faster than the sun. It may therefore occur there quite different processes. Researchers speculate, however, that we observe the situation which occurred in the case of the Sun, when it was young.
