PDF file viewer built into Firefox proved to be full of holes. Dangerous vulnerability discovered by analyzing the file placed on one of the Russian parties of the international nature of the information. The case on its official blog informs Mozilla.
As explained in Niebezpiecznik.pl PDF files placed on a Russian server contained the exploit. A small, malicious code penetrated the victim’s computer using Java Script while browsing using Firefox infected PDFA.
An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to take over basically every file. The script, however, focused on files containing passwords or configurations of FTP programs like FileZilla.
What to do?
Firefox has responded to the threat and released a corresponding patch, we recommend that you download the latest version of Firefox ( 39.03). If administers a party with, for example. FileZilli better change your password.
We would like to know how long criminals use a detected vulnerability. Unfortunately, it is difficult to estimate, since the attack on the computer does not leave absolutely no trace of the victim.
