Analytical OpenSignal published a new report , which describes a variety of devices with Android. Their number is growing at a rapid pace, there is a growing number of manufacturers. Is that a giant consumer growth is good or bad? Let us analyze it.



Six times more devices

When in 2012 the first time we saw a diagram showing the variety of Android devices could not believe that there are as many behind. After just three years, the situation became even more complicated. Today on the ecosystem of devices running Google consists of a … 24,000 devices. This, as noted by Quartz service, six times more than in 2012.

Producers complain that we offer

According to a report OpenSignal the world is already 1,000 manufacturers of smartphones and tablets with Android. Despite such a gigantic competition in market share leader Android devices is Samsung, though its shares have fallen since 2012 from 43% to 37.8%.

The map below shows the dominance of individual producers in selected markets. In Poland, as in Europe and the US and Russia, the most popular products are Android devices Samsung. In China, dominated by indigenous manufacturer – increasingly inflating also in Western markets – Xiaomi.

Fragmentation – good or bad?

At such a gigantic variety of Android devices, you can look at two ways. On the one hand it is good for the consumer. We can choose between supertanimi equipment manufacturers such as BeUnited whether MyPhone the “average shelf” on expensive “flagship”. Competition is good for consumers, because the effect on prices. On the other hand, the fragmentation of Android brings problems, because Google must approve the updates for each manufacturer. It prolongs the process of renovation, making it too expensive. Another problem is the machine with older versions of Android – not all receive from Google the latest security updates.
