Radeon RX 460 – Test vs. GTX-I 950 – PCLab.pl

Low shelf graphics cards for several months is persistently ignored by the GPU manufacturers. Hitting from time to time to market new products usually do not change practically nothing in the situation in which they are the least well-off players. In the segment of cards for 400-700 zł performance actually is in place, because all the time we get very weak new cores or older cores under a new name. In fact, the only advantage of newer systems is increased functionality (support for new techniques, get out of the image), and enhanced energy efficiency, but … and that’s not all.

What is currently available in the low end?

Radeon R7 360 (see our test) – card introduced in June 2015 which essentially uses the core Bonaire Pro, but in terms of cropped R7 260X configuration. The core is built in the architecture GCN second generation, and the card itself is sold for about 445 zł.

GeForce GTX 750 Ti (see our test) – a small Maxwell, introduced in February 2014. This is the first generation of Maxwell and at the time this was a new core, and therefore supports a lot of technical innovations. The current price of these cards start from 455 zł.

Radeon R7 370 (see our test). This is a real dinosaur, because it’s Radeon HD 7850, which is the first generation of GCN, which changed its name three times (HD 7850 – & gt; R7 265 – & gt; R7 370). As a result, R7 370 does not support virtually any new technical solutions. The stores are available at a price of about 575 zł.

GeForce GTX 950 (see our test) – structure introduced in August 2015. This is the second generation Maxwell architecture, with all relevant functions. In dziewięćsetpięćdziesiątce used cut by 33% GM206 core, underlying pre-GTX and GTX 960. Currently, y-950 can be purchased at stores for about 650 zł and so it is the most expensive card in the low range of prices.

How clear choice among the weaker graphics card is small. Compete in the only four different cores, and the spread range is large: for the price of about 450 zł you can choose between the GTX-I 750 Ti and R7 360, 100 zł more expensive, you can buy a lonely R7 370, and the next supplement allows you to enjoy GTX-I 950, also without direct rival. This situation obviously corresponds to the manufacturers and only the latest Radeon RX 460 has a chance something in this regard to change.

AMD Radeon RX 460

Radeon RX 460 Radeon RX 460 is by far the smallest core, which was built in the architecture Polaris . The test toddler has 14 computational units, each of which has 64 shader, giving a total of 896 SM ( Stream Processors ). The core of the RX-460 and also included a place for rasteryzujących 16 units (ROP) and 56 texturing (TMU). The core of the RX-460 will be clocked at a base frequency of 1090 MHz, but the technique Boost has it increased to 1200 MHz, if you just let it limit the power and the temperature of the system. The core of a miniature Polaris will collaborate with the GDDR5 memory via a 128-bit interface, and the amount of memory to be at the discretion of the manufacturer. Of course, the only configuration that will go on sale will be options for 2 and 4GB. Regardless of the amount of VRAM will be clocked at a frequency of at least 1 750 MHz.

it is impossible to resist the impression that AMD itself creates another huge hole in the offer. Radeon RX 460 is in fact less than half of the Radeon RX 470, and in every way. This combined with the similar timing of both systems makes the performance of the Radeon RX 460 is a big question mark. All comparable graphics cards are far too weak for the highest image quality settings, so this time test conducted at slightly lower settings, and only in Full HD.
