Solar Impulse 2 began last flight traveling around the world – Interia

July 24 plane took off from Cairo, while starting the last 17 stage of the journey around the world. Its endpoint is the capital of the United Arab Emirates – Abu Dhabi, where it lands on Tuesday 26 July. Start was to take place a few days earlier, but due to the high temperatures and disease pilot had to be postponed. Although the last stage is one of the shortest, the pilot rated it as difficult.

Solar Impulse 2 is a plane powered fully by solar energy. Travel around the world began March 9, 2015 year. Swiss aircraft production moving at a speed of about 75 km / h at a maximum height of 28 000 feet. The machine uses a 17 solar cells 248, whereby unnecessary to use conventional fuels.

The machine weighs 2.3 tons, and the span of its wings is 72 meters. Solar Impulse 2 is the successor to the first of this type of machinery, Solar Impulse 1, which, among others, was a multi-step flight of the US in 2013.
